Standalone Bidet Installation for a Customer

A customer recently contacted McPipe Plumbing to install a traditional standalone bidet in their bathroom. These fixtures are not as common as they once were, with many homeowners now choosing bidet seats or attachments instead, but standalone bidets are still found in some homes.

This installation involved assembling the faucet and controls, connecting the water and drain lines, securing the bidet and testing the completed fixture.

Why Have a Standalone Bidet?

People choose bidets for several reasons. The main one is personal hygiene, since washing with water can provide a more thorough clean than using toilet paper alone. A bidet can also reduce the amount of toilet paper used and may feel gentler for people who experience irritation or sensitivity.

A standalone bidet may be helpful for:

Unlike a bidet seat, a standalone bidet has its own basin, faucet, hot and cold water controls and drain. It takes up more bathroom space and requires separate plumbing connections, but some homeowners prefer the comfort, adjustability and appearance of a dedicated fixture.

Preparing the Bidet and Plumbing Components

Before the fixture was installed, the bidet and its plumbing components were laid out and checked. The openings in the fixture needed to line up with the faucet, separate hot and cold water controls and drain assembly.

Checking the fittings beforehand helped confirm that the parts were suitable for the bidet and that everything required to complete the installation was available.

Installing the Faucet and Drain

The faucet and water controls were fitted through the openings at the back of the bidet and secured from underneath. The drain and stopper assembly were also installed and sealed.

As with a sink installation, these connections need to be properly aligned and tightened. A loose fitting or poor seal can lead to water leaking beneath the fixture after it is put into use.

Connecting and Securing the Bidet

Once the hardware was assembled, the bidet was positioned and connected to the available plumbing. The water supply connections were attached, and the fixture was secured so it would remain stable during use.

Working underneath a bidet can be difficult once it is in position, so the connections need to be planned carefully and checked before access becomes limited.

Testing the Completed Installation

After the installation was complete, the water was turned on and the bidet was tested. The faucet, hot and cold controls, stopper and drain were checked for proper operation.

The water supply and drain connections were also inspected for leaks. This final testing confirmed that the bidet was secure, draining properly and ready for the customer to use.
